Looking for help for your

deaf and hard-of-hearing students?

We are here to help!

Services to school boards.

The consultants offer a wide range of services to school board programs; all with the goal of being confident that the programs have the information and support needed to provide an appropriate education model.  The resource consultants are not a direct provider of programs to students in board programs.

Role of Resource Consultant

CLASSROOM ASSISTANCE

  • visiting classrooms to conduct observations and gather pertinent information

  • facilitating prescriptive assessments in order to offer program suggestions

  • offering consultation regarding assistive technology needs/classroom environmental requirements

  • providing advice re: integration and strategies for inclusion

  • assisting in the development of student IEPs

STAFF ASSISTANCE

  • consultation with educators

  • presenting workshops

  • assisting boards to access appropriate resources

  • attending case conferences/IPRC meetings upon request

  • facilitating admission to a provincial school for the deaf, blind and deaf blind 

  • sharing information with school boards, parents and others through various media

  • providing information and assistance to boards concerning alternative funding

  • providing leadership support to itinerant/teaching organizations (i.e. Itinerant Teachers of the Deaf in Ontario - ITSO, ITNO, SWITO, Symposium East )

  • providing leadership in the use of technology for the education of deaf/hard of hearing/blind/deaf blind students.

Tips for communicating with your student

  • Explanations of audiograms

  • Suggestions for teaching speech and language

  • Trouble-shooting hearing aids and FM systems

  • Advice regarding funding

  • Using interpreters in your classroom
